Polarization: How "Choosing Your Sword" Potentiates Spiritual Growth

Updated: Sep 21, 2020

This article answers the following questions I have received from clients and students:

  1. How can I improve my own intuitive practice?

  2. How can I trust that the intuitive guidance I receive is of a higher vibration?

  3. What can I do to expedite my spiritual growth?

  4. What can I do to align more with 4th density?

  5. How can I put an end to karma?

  6. How can I be more loving and open to more love?

  7. How can I be of better service to others?

  8. How can I overcome my pattern of indecision?

Polarization is the free will choice of committing oneself to either a life of service to others or a life of service to self. It begins with a declarative statement to the Universe, and it becomes strengthened through consistent, integrous thought and action. Polarization is a spiritual tool that can be consciously utilized by an awakening or awakened human within the 3rd density of planet earth for the purpose of potentiating spiritual growth.

Before diving deeper, I want to acknowledge that the word “polarization” has some negative connotations in our collective human experience, specifically as it relates to politics. For instance, the United States has a binary party system, where two major political parties dominate the political landscape. As a result, U.S. citizens tend to pick a political side, or “polarize”, and comprehensively align with one political party, while closing off to the opinions, insights, or perspectives of the other political party (or “others” in general).

Polarization - as described in this article and impressed upon me by my teachers in Spirit - is not an unrelenting unwillingness to see other perspectives, but is instead a steadfast willingness to focus one’s energy and actions with a specific aim. It is more akin to the polarization of a transverse wave in the study of physics, where the wave oscillates along a single plane of propagation in a single fixed direction.

In other words, polarization as a spiritual tool is the directing of all of one’s energy, beingness, intention, and concentration towards a singular, chosen polarity. And the choice of polarity is either “service to self” or “service to others”.

The Polarization Choice: Service to Self or Service to Others

In The Ra Material: Book 1, the humble messenger Ra describes service to others polarization by explaining that, “The best way of service to others is the constant attempt to seek to share the love of the Creator as it is known to the inner self. This involves self-knowledge and the ability to open the self to the other-self without hesitation. This involves, shall we say, radiating that which is the essence or the heart of the mind/body/spirit complex.” Consequently, when a person is polarized towards service to others, there exists a conscious inner drive, instinct, and intention to live by the Golden Rule and “Treat others as you want to be treated”.

In contrast, the humble messenger Ra describes a service to self person as one who, “Perceives other-selves as other-selves and consciously determines to manipulate other-selves for the benefit of the self.” Therefore, when a person is polarized towards service to self, an enjoyment of power is experienced and there exists an inner desire, aspiration, and determination to control and manipulate others for self-advancement.

Both polarizations, service to others and service to self, are legitimate choices to make, and ultimately align wholeheartedly with. Ra clarifies that no judgment is harbored towards one’s choice of polarization, nor is one choice of polarization promoted over another. It is merely suggested, for the simple purpose of potentiating and expediting one’s spiritual advancement, that a person consciously choose a polarization.

The Non-choice: Carrying the Weight of Two Swords

Right about now you may be thinking to yourself, “I’m fine just as I am, so why should I care about polarization?” The truth is that you do not have to care about polarization. You may truly desire to not make this choice, and therefore not polarize yourself. You may authentically prefer to remain in the expanse of space that exists between the two aforementioned polarities, and believe me, there are plenty of life experiences and lessons to be had there. If this is you, by all means, please continue to enjoy your human experience exactly as it is.

Alternatively, if your curiosity is roused by this conversation about polarization and how it may be of benefit to you, I invite you to read on.

In my experience, the Two of Swords card in the Rider-Waite tarot deck distinctly represents the culmination of energy of this “non-choice” or non-polarization, this ongoing dwelling within the expanse of space between the two polarities.

Two of Swords Tarot Card
Two of Swords Tarot Card

The Two of Swords card as shown here depicts a person who is literally holding the weight of a personal decision, as represented by the 2 swords in her hands. Yet she is delaying making a choice, because she is either refusing to look at facts, avoiding taking responsibility, or feeling fearful of the outcome of her decision. She waits, and she waits, and she waits.

Meanwhile, the two swords she is holding (which represent the two options available to her regarding this imminent choice) become heavier and heavier. In this card, the absolute lack of trees and vegetation in this woman’s surroundings represents the waning, if not complete absence, of life-force energy which is a direct result of her indecision. The blindfold demonstrates her unwillingness to see what’s actually going on.

The Two of Swords card exemplifies the amassed energies that result from non-choice, whether a person carries this weight of two swords for one lifetime or across thousands of lifetimes. The burden of perpetual ambiguity eventually becomes too much to bear.

Choosing Your Sword

When the Two of Swords card appears in a tarot spread, it guides the seeker/questioner:

  • To become overtly aware of an impending choice or decision that is being overlooked

  • To recognize the stagnation of energy that is resulting from this delay

  • To cease delaying, and make an intentional, committed choice in one direction or another

  • To face the fear of “not knowing”

  • To experience the simple, spiritual empowerment of committing to a choice (to choose a sword) regardless of the perceived outcome

What the Two of Swords card does not emphasize, nor even acknowledge, is the actual outcome of the decision. Instead, the card directs our attention to the personal and spiritual power a person self-activates and potentiates simply by making this free-will choice.

Accordingly, when a person consciously chooses a polarization of service to others or service to self, she/he is choosing to carry only one sword. And like the transverse wave of physics, the energy of the single sword oscillates along a single plane of propagation in a single fixed direction, resulting in a singular wholehearted focus for the person who makes the choice of polarization.

So, when you choose your sword, choose wisely. If you are feeling drawn to consciously polarize, you will have an inner knowing about which polarization is most aligned with your soul’s purpose for being here on this planet. You will intuitively sense that you are here either in service to others or in service to self. Trust yourself, and choose your sword accordingly.

The Benefits of Service to Others Polarization

In my present lifetime, and in many others I imagine, I have consciously chosen to polarize in service to others. I therefore am unable to speak to the knowledge, wisdom, and growth gained from the service to self polarization. That being said, I’ve come to recognize the many personal, planetary, and cosmic benefits of my service to others polarization, and I’d like to share them with you here.

First, my choice to polarize in service to others is not just a one-time decision, but a choice I actively remember and reaffirm daily, in every aspect of my life, to the extent that I am able. As I infuse my experiences, conversations, work, and engagements with this energy of “Treat others as you want to be treated”, I am transforming my thoughts, strengthening my personal energetic field, and expanding the love I have in my heart to encompass all humans, all life forms, all planets, and the multiverse. I begin to recognize that I am not alone, but instead that we are One. I am not perfect in my chosen polarization, yet I know every small step I take amplifies it tremendously.

Second, as an actively intuitive human and a professionally practicing Medium, my polarization in service to others greatly fortifies my connections with Spirit and crystallizes the guidance, messages, and wisdom that is shared through me. It is a metaphysical rule that we as humans connect with Spirit guides and teachers who are resonating at the same vibration or frequency that we are resonating at. In other words, when I consistently and wholeheartedly polarize in service to others, I resultingly connect with Spirit guides and teachers who are also polarized in service to others.

Finally, as an eternal soul, my polarization in service to others affords me an opportunity to progress more efficiently and expediently through my human lessons here on planet earth. I come to recognize that my singular function here is to forgive and love everything that comes my way. My priorities become clear, streamlined, and singular in each and every situation. And therefore, I am able to actually feel this forgiveness and abundance of love within my own being, and share it with others accordingly.

If you’re ready to potentiate and expedite your own spiritual advancement, simply choose your preferred polarization. Next, make a declarative, outward statement to the Universe stating your polarization. For me in my service to others polarization, my declarative statement reads like this: “I’m here in service to all beings, all life on the planet, and outward to all of the cosmos. I’m here in service to God.” Then put it into actual practice through your thoughts and daily actions.

And if you’re prepared to begin working with your chosen service to others polarization in the strengthening and advancement of your own personal intuitive practice, join me in my new Intuitive Mentorship 101 Course.

The symbols and imagery used in the deck have had many influences throughout history. In the Law of One book series, the humble messenger Ra conveys that the 22 Major Arcana cards were originally devised by the 3rd density population of Venus to provide a set of archetypes that the adept may work with to better recognize within oneself. The imagery of the cards was then influenced by Egyptian priests/leaders and later by the astrological leanings of Ur, Chaldea, and Mesopotamia. In modern times, the symbols and imagery of the cards have drawn upon the influence of 19th century magician and occultist, Eliphas Levi.
